Game Recap: Men's Volleyball |

Raptors unable to complete comeback, fall to CCNY in four sets

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - Looking to improve upon their 1-1 start to the 2020 season, the Bard College men's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to The City College of New York Tuesday evening.

The Raptors (1-2) took early control following a pair of kills from both senior Tristan Kozul and freshman Angel Obergh. But CCNY (5-0) came storming back, winning six consecutive points to take a 9-4 lead. Junior Joshua Han got Bard back in the set with three straight kills, but CCNY again responded with a strong stretch. The Beavers went on an 8-1 run to put the set out of reach and closed it out with a 25-14 win.

Bard started off the second set with a 4-0 lead, following some strong defense that included four straight blocks from freshman Sebastien Dufour. CCNY, however, was able to chip away at the Raptors' lead and eventually tie the score at seven. The Beavers went on to take the lead midway through the set, but Kozul came through with two kills to get Bard within a point. CCNY then pulled away late once again, picking up the next five points and claiming a 25-19 victory to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Raptors responded with a bang in the third set. They picked up six consecutive points to take an early 10-3 lead, capped off by one of Han's three fourth-set kills. The Beavers were eventually able to close the gap to an 18-14 score, but Bard came through with a 7-2 run to take a 25-16 decision and pick up their first set of the match.

Unfortunately for the Raptors, that was as close as they would get. CCNY took control of the fourth set early and never looked back. After getting out to a 10-1 lead, the Beavers put things away quickly in the fourth, coming away with a 25-7 win to close out the match.

Kozul and Han tied for the team lead with six kills on the night, with Kozul contributing 11 assists and 12 digs as well. Dufour chipped in with five kills and four blocks, and Obergh finished with four kills and a team-leading 14 digs. Senior Esteban Rivera led the Raptors with 13 assists in the match.

Bard returns to the court Thursday night, when they finish their four-game homestand with a matchup against Medgar Evers College. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
