MADISON, N.J. - The Bard College women's soccer team picked up their second win of the season in a 3-2 overtime thriller over the United States Coast Guard Academy Saturday afternoon.
Junior goalkeeper
Abigail Stanley made six saves in the first half, but the Bears (0-3) were able to break through in the 43rd minute when Anna Carleton (Huntington Beach, CA) was able to get one past Stanley to give Coast Guard a 1-0 lead going into the intermission.
However, the Raptors (2-2) tied the game just over three minutes into the second half on a goal by senior midfielder
Sarah George, knotting the game at one apiece. The teams played deadlocked at one goal aside until the 80th minute, when senior midfielder
Alina Augustin put Bard ahead with her second goal of the season, with freshman midfielder
Abby Frazier and freshman forward
Kehela Ventura picking up the assists.
The Raptors were moments away from victory, but the Bears' Claire Hurley (Waterford, CT) scored in the 88th minute to send the game to sudden-death overtime, with Lizzie Miller (Glen Rock, NJ) assisting on the tying goal.
Just over six minutes into the overtime period, Augustin had a breakaway opportunity and slid the ball past the Bears' keeper into the bottom left corner of the net, scoring her second goal of the day and giving Bard a 3-2 victory, with Ventura again providing the assist.
The Raptors return to action Sunday, Sept. 8, when they take on Drew University on the final day of the Drew University Fall Festival, with game time scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
