DANBURY, Conn. - The Bard College women's tennis team hit the road on Friday and came away with a 7-2 victory over Western Connecticut State University, the Raptors' third straight win to start the 2019-20 season.
The match was closer than the final team scores appear.
Katie Esposito and
Katri Shields prevailed at No. 1 singles, 8-6, while
Duhita Das and
Tori Bowen won at No. 3 singles, 8-7, thanks to a 10-6 tiebreaker win. With
Nico Gusac and
Mia Chan cruising at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, the Raptors had a hard-fought 3-0 lead heading into the singles competition.
Bard (3-0) took four of the six singles matches to give the Colonials a season-opening loss. Esposito, Bowen, Gusac and Chan all won in straight sets.
The women's tennis team next plays on Sept. 22 at home against SUNY Delhi.
