Playing in their first home matchup of the season, the Bard College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Lehman College Wednesday evening.
The Raptors (3-2) won the matchup in convincing fashion, winning the three sets by scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-22. The team started out strong, as Bard picked up five of the first six points in set one. Following a push by Lehman (1-7), the Raptors closed out the set by winning nine of the final 11 points.
Set two featured a similar start, as The Raptors got out to an 8-0 lead. The Lightning again responded by winning six out of eight points later in the set, but Bard then closed out set two with three straight points.
The third set featured a much bigger push from Lehman despite the Raptors picking up five of the first six points. The Lightning closed the gap to just one one point late in the set after winning four straight, but Bard earned two consecutive points to close out the match.
On the night, seniorÂ
Maracela Talamantes tied for the team lead with seven kills and added five assists. Junior
Mikala L'Hote had seven kills as well, and senior
Lia Taus had six aces on the night. Senior
Jewel Smith led the way for Bard with 22 assists, and senior
Emily Anastasi picked up 12 digs.
The Raptors return to the court Saturday, Sept. 14 for a home tri-match, first facing off with Farmingdale State College at 12:00 p.m., then taking on Mitchell College at 4:00 p.m.
