NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Bard College women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, Sept. 1, falling 4-0 on the road to Smith College.
The Pioneers (2-0) got on the board early, as Etienne Oliver (Sandy, OR) picked up the first goal of the game in the 10th minute, with Reilly Sullivan (Keene, NH) providing the assist.
From there, the Raptors (1-1) played a solid defensive game for the rest of the half. They allowed just one shot on goal the rest of the way but were unable to even the score, sending the game to the intermission with Smith still holding their 1-0 lead.
Coming out of the break, the Raptors had chances offensively in the first few minutes but were unable to break through. Then in the 62nd minute, the home team extended their lead to two when Katie Salenius (Mendon, MA) picked up a goal off assists by Zufan Bazzano (Great Barrington, MA) and Oliver. Just under eight minutes later, Bazzano scored a goal of her own to push the lead to three, with Maggie Boyle (Milford, MA) picking up the assist. Hannah Kelsey (Hopkinton, NH) scored the fourth and final goal for the Pioneers, coming in the 78th minute.
The Raptors return to action Wednesday, Sept. 4, when they travel to Albany, N.Y. to take on The Sage Colleges, with game time scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
