Raptors outscored by Mount St. Vincent, 12-9

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - With four conference games behind them and four in front of them this weekend, the Bard and Mount St. Vincent baseball teams were mindful of that when they met for a non-league game on Tuesday.

The result was a combined 21 runs on 27 hits, 22 runners left on base, 16 strikeouts, 14 walks, eight pitchers and a 12-9 win for the visitors. The game was shortened to eight innings by darkness, and those eight innings took more than three hours to complete.

Bard got on the board in the bottom of the first on back-to-back infield singles with two outs and the bases loaded by Esteban Rivera and Ryan Chipman, making it 2-0 after one inning. The Dolphins (7-6) got three in the top of the second, then a sacrifice fly by Chris Blake in the bottom of the inning plated Julian Gonzalez, so it was tied, 3-3, after two.

The Raptors (7-8) went up 6-3 with a three-run fourth, on an RBI single by Blake, and RBI double by Dillon Daine, and a run-scoring single by Rivera.

Mount St. Vincent scored six runs on five hits and two errors to go up 9-6 in the fifth, then added two in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it 12-6. The Raptors got three back in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Alex Luscher, an RBI groundout by Robert Arciola, and a run-scoring double by Gonzalez.

Pedro Fortoso (2-0) got the win in relief, yielding four runs in four innings. Michael Grisanti (Massapequa, NY) went 4-for-4 and Matt DiNorcia (Naples, FL) drove in three runs for the Dolphins.

Elliott Goldstein got the start and struck out seven over four innings. Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with a double, while Rivera and Chipman had two hits apiece. Blake and Rivera drove in two runs each.

Up next for the Raptors is a four-game Liberty League series against RPI. They'll play two in Troy on Saturday, and two in Annandale on Sunday. Follow all four games live right here.
