COBLESKILL, N.Y. - Coming into play on a three game winning streak, the Bard College women's volleyball team dropped a tough five set match with SUNY Cobleskill Tuesday evening.
The Raptors (6-11) got off to a strong start, jumping out to an early lead and taking the first set by a 25-20 score. The second set was tightly contested as well, but Bard was once again able to come out on top, earning a 25-21 win in set two go up by a 2-0 score.
However, Cobleskill (9-7) found their way back into the match by picking up a 25-16 victory in set three, followed by a win in set four by a score of 25-19 to force a decisive fifth set. In the fifth, the Fighting Tigers were once again able to prevail, edging out the Raptors 15-12 in the final frame to complete the comeback and pick up a 3-2 victory.
On the night, senior
Emily Anastasi tied a season high with 38 digs, and junior
Mikala L'Hote led the Raptors with 11 kills and five solo blocks. Senior
Maracela Talamantes picked up eight kills and 10 digs, while freshman
Macey Spearko had six kills and 12 digs. Senior
Jewel Smith had a strong night, providing 29 assists and 12 digs, and classmate
Lia Taus provided 15 digs for Bard.
The Raptors return to action Friday, Oct. 11, when they get back to Liberty League play with a home matchup against RIT. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
