Raptors split; Anastasi records 1,000th career dig

KINGS POINT, N.Y. - Bard College junior Emily Anastasi became just the second player in the history of the women's volleyball program to reach 1,000 digs on Saturday, as the Raptors split matches with Brooklyn College and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Anastasi entered the day needing 17 digs to reach 1,000, and she got there in a 3-0 sweep of Brooklyn. Bard hit a season-high .209 to top the Bulldogs 25-22, 25-18 and 25-12.

An assist from Anastasi on a kill by Victoria Chou ended a close first set, 25-22. After an 11-11 tie, Bard took the lead and never trailed again to take the second set. And the Raptors led from start to finish in a dominant third set.

Storm Bookhard had a career-high 14 kills (.290), and added 11 digs. Victoria Chou and Mikala L'Hote added nine kills apiece, and Chou also led the team with 17 assists. Anastasi reached the 1,000-dig milestone in the third set. Jewel Smith contributed 12 assists and six digs.

USMMA swept Bard, 25-15, 25-9 and 25-23. The Mariners produced twice as many kills (34) as Bard did to improve to 8-5 overall.

L'Hote had five kills (.357), Chou had nine assists and 13 digs, and Anastasi added 15 more digs. Bookhard finished with four more kills and 10 digs.

Bard (6-10) will dive back into Liberty League play next week, hosting Clarkson and St. Lawrence on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Follow both games live right here.
