Raptors fall to Ramapo, New Paltz at Roadrunner Invitational

MAHWAH, N.J. - The Bard College women's volleyball team suffered a pair of losses Friday night, falling to host Ramapo College in straight sets and SUNY New Paltz, 3-1 on day one of the Roadrunner Invitational.

Set scores against the Roadrunners of Ramapo were 25-10, 25-18 and 25-18.

Despite starting the contest with a .212 hitting percentage in the first set, the Raptors just couldn't match the hitting of Ramapo on the night. The hosts recorded a .267 hitting percentage for the match, double-digit kills in all three sets and committed just eight errors across the three frames.

Storm Bookhard finished with eight kills for the Raptors, while Jewel Smith collected 23 assists and Emily Anastasi totaled 17 digs in the game one loss. Morgan Ridgway (Barnegat, NJ) powered the Roadrunners to victory with 10 kills and four aces.

In the second match of the night, Bard was able to win a set, but ultimately fell to New Paltz, 3-1. Set scores were 25-15, 25-17, 23-25 and 25-13.

After the Raptors fell behind two sets to none, the team regrouped to win the third set, leading the frame from start to finish. That was as close as Bard came to a comeback though, as New Paltz quickly jumped in front in set four to secure the victory.

Maracela Talamantes finished with six kills and 14 digs for Bard in game two. Bookhard collected five kills and 19 digs, while Anastasi tallied a game-high 24 digs in the effort. For New Paltz, Kerri Neville (Commack, NY) finished with a game-high nine kills and three blocks.

With the losses, the Raptors dropped to 3-5 overall. Ramapo, meanwhile, improved to 4-3 and New Paltz to 8-3.
