HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Bard College women's volleyball team opened the 2018 season at the Haverford Invitational on Saturday.
The Raptors dropped their first match of the season in a nail-biter, 3-1, to Goucher College. Set scores for the Gophers were 27-25, 26-24, 23-25 and 25-23.
Bard was led by junior captain
Maracela Talamantes, who had a career high 12 kills (.333) and added 14 digs.
Jewel Smith had a career high 32 assists to go with 12 digs, freshman
Storm Bookhard had six kills, two aces and 25 digs, and
Emily Anastasi had 18 digs.
Bianca Brown (North Brunswick, NJ) led Goucher with eight kills and seven blocks.
The Raptors were then swept by Arcadia University, 25-5, 25-16 and 25-17.
Mikala L'Hote had eight kills, Smith had 15 assists, and
Bari Bossis had six digs.
Bard will play two more matches at Haverford on Sunday, taking on Farmingdale State and Bethany.
