ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost to St. Lawrence University, 3-0, in a Liberty League match on Saturday afternoon.
The Saints prevailed, 25-18, 25-13 and 25-13.
Early on, the first set was close. Even after St. Lawrence took an 18-12 lead to build a bit of a cushion, Bard rallied behind
Maracela Talamantes. The junior produced a kill and consecutive aces, and an attack error drew Bard even closer, 18-16. But St. Lawrence took four of the next five points to rebuild the lead, and took the set, 25-18, on a strength of 11 kills and just two errors (.300).
In the second set, a kill from
Lauryn Colby kept Bard close, 11-9, but the Saints went on an 11-2 run and put the set away, winning it 25-13.
The Raptors never led in the third set as St. Lawrence continued its hot hitting and won it, 25-13. St. Lawrence (13-7 overall, 1-4 Liberty League) produced 11 kills in each set and hit .321 in the match.
Bard (6-12, 0-4) got five kills apiece from
Mikala L'Hote and
Storm Bookhard, and Bookhard added eight digs.
Jewel Smith had 18 assists and seven digs, and
Lia Taus led the team with 12 digs.
