POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball was defeated by Vassar College, 3-0, Wednesday evening in a Liberty League contest.
Set scores for the game were 25-19, 25-11 and 25-10. The Raptors are now 6-13 overall and 0-5 in Liberty League play, while the Brewers of Vassar improved to 12-6 and 4-1.
To begin the night, Vassar jumped in front early, scoring three of the first four points of the game. As the opening set progressed, Bard's deficit grew, as Vassar established leads of 7-2, 11-4 and 14-7 throughout the frame. The hosts eventually pushed their advantage to as many as eight, as three straight Vassar kills extended the lead to 18-10.
After that point, the Raptors began to rally back. Bard scored four straight points to cut it to an 18-14 game, before the two squads proceeded to trade points to a 21-17 score line late into the first set.Â
In the end, the Brewers were able to hang on, as they managed to outscore Bard, 4-2, over the final points to win the opening set, 25-19.
Following 16 kills and a .324 hitting percentage in the first set, Vassar's offensive continued to carry the hosts in sets two and three, as the Brewers used long scoring streaks to propelled them past Bard.
For the Raptors,
Storm Bookhard finished with four kills, two aces, two assists and six digs.
Jewel Smith added seven digs, six assists and an ace, andÂ
Lauryn Colby recorded three kills and a block in the effort.
Devan Gallagher (San Francisco, CA) led the way for Vassar with 14 kills and 14 digs, both game highs, while Madison Wilson (Plano, TX) collected 32 assists in the win.Â
