Women's soccer downed at No. 22 Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team was defeated by Ithaca College on the road Saturday afternoon, 2-0, in a Liberty League game.

The Raptors dropped to 4-6-1 overall and 0-4 in Liberty League play with the loss, while the 22nd-ranked Bombers of Ithaca improved to 9-1-2 and 3-1.

Bard nearly snatched the lead early in the contest, as Dylan McDonald's free kick in the 17th minute was just barely parried away over the crossbar by Ithaca's keeper, Sara Jakobsze (Webster, NY). Minutes later, Jakobsze was again called upon to stop a shot from McDonald, as the Bombers' goalie managed to keep the Raptors off the scoreboard all afternoon.

In between the two McDonald scoring chances, Ithaca had a chance of its own, which it converted, thanks to Sarah Pirnie (Hilton, NY) putting away a cross from Elise Leavitt (Stratham, NH) in the 20th minute.

At the end of the first 45 minute frame, things remained 1-0 in favor of Ithaca. That score continued into the second half, until the Bombers doubled their advantage in the 74th minute. Pirnie scored her second of the contest after a little give and go play between her and Megan O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) on a breakway attempt.

The game finished 2-0, as the Ithaca defense held Bard to just two shots in the second half. Ithaca finished the game with 14 shots to Bard's four, while winning the corner count, 5-1.

Abigail Stanley recorded three saves in the effort for Bard. Jakobsze collected the win and three saves of her own for Ithaca.

Up next for the Raptors is the start of a three-game homestand, as they host St. Lawrence University on October 12th at 4 p.m. You can follow that contest right here.
