ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It was getting late in the game, and the frustration level for the Bard women's soccer team was quite high.
The Raptors had produced more scoring opportunities, more shots, and had carried the better of the possession all day against St. Lawrence, yet the Saints were clinging to a 1-0 lead. Katie Clemmer (Yarmouth, ME) scored an incredible goal from a bad angle in the 40th minute, but the Saints had produced just one shot since, while Bard was seeing opportunity after opportunity slide just wide or get cleared off the line.
In the 88th minute, justice was served, as
Dylan McDonald volleyed a one-hop cross from
Maddie Nye inside the far post to equalize the game.
But Julia Mulhern (Beaconsfield, Quebec) scored with less than a minute left in the first overtime, and St. Lawrence escaped Annandale with a 2-1 victory.
Bard outshot St. Lawrence 12-10 in the game, including 6-2 in the second half, but couldn't find a way to finish. Pressing forward late, a ball lofted from midfield into the box by Nye took one big hop and McDonald volleyed it with a defender draped on her back. It beat Samantha Allen to the far post, and it was just the fourth goal the Saints had yielded all season.
But the Saints earned an early corner in the overtime and created some pressure, and it paid off when Mulhern hit a sliding strike off a cross from Julia Hill (Stowe, MA) in the 100th minute.
Allen made four saves for St. Lawrence.
Abigail Stanley made five saves for Bard.
