ITHACA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost to 19th-ranked Ithaca College in straight sets Friday night, in a Liberty League match.
Set scores for the contest were 25-11, 25-18 and 25-13.
After a first set defeat, the Raptors turned it on to begin the second frame, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage early. The Bombers of Ithaca College, who lost in the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament last season, weren't fazed however.
Ithaca rallied to tie the game at 7-7, before the two sides traded points to a 13-13 score line. From there, the Bombers took control, scoring the next six points in the set.
But the Raptors continued to battle, eventually cutting the deficit to 20-17 late into the frame. That was as close as Bard got the rest of the way though, as Ithaca managed to score five of the final six points to win the set, 25-18.
In the final set, the Bombers' offense continued to shine, as the hosts finished with a .370 hitting percentage and 14 kills in the frame.
For the game, Bard got four kills from
Storm Bookhard and three from
Maracela Talamantes.
Jewel Smith added eight assists and six digs for the Raptors in the effort.
Regan Stone (St. Louis, MO) powered the Bombers with 12 kills, while Caitlyn Floyd (Mahwah, NJ) collected 37 assists in the win.
