Women's soccer falls to Union College at home

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team lost to Union College, 3-0, Wednesday night in a Liberty League match.

With the defeat, the Raptors dropped to 4-9-1 overall and 0-7 in league play, while the Dutchwomen of Union improved to 6-6-1 and 3-3.

Despite the two sides having to deal with temperatures in the 40s and heavy winds at kickoff, neither team started the game slow.

Bard nearly grabbed the lead in the fifth minute, when Dylan McDonald unleashed a shot from the top of the goalie box. Union's keeper, Kelsey Hartsoe (Wallingford, CT), stood tall in net and parried McDonald's shot away to the right. Off the save, Giuliana Scanni had a brilliant chance on goal, but her shot sailed just high.

From then on, it was Union's game the rest of the way. The Dutchwomen scored in the ninth minute, as Linsey Giles (Bedford, MA) headed in a cross from Nicole Sturno (Wyckoff, NJ). Five minutes later, Bella Dworkin (Manchester, VT) scored on a direct kick to push Union's lead to 2-0, which was the halftime score.

In the second half, Bard had two more chances on goal that just missed the back of the net. McDonald had her shot in the 48th minute ring of the right post out of play. In the 75th minute, Scanni unleashed a blast from the top of the penalty box, that was saved just in time to preserve the clean sheet for Union.

In between the two second half chances for Bard, Union struck one final time in the 59th minute to secure the win, 3-0.

On the night, Bard outshot Union, 17-14 overall. McDonald and Scanni each finished with two shots on goal and Abigail Stanley collected five saves for Bard. Hartsoe finished with three saves and the win for Union.

Up next for Bard is a road game against RIT on October 20th at noon. You can follow that contest right here.
