CANTON, N.Y. - The resilient Bard College men's basketball team rallied from double-digit deficits twice, but simply ran out of rallies in a 95-84 loss at St. Lawrence in a Liberty League game on Saturday.

Bard fell to 6-12 overall and 4-7 in the Liberty League; St. Lawrence improved to 5-13, 3-8.

The Saints came out blazing in the first half, shooting 58 percent from the field, and it was all Bard could do just to hang in there. A layup by Ben Crawford (Framingham, MA) capped a 22-10 run, and Bard's deficit was 38-24 with 3:22 left in the first half.

An 11-2 run by the Raptors trimmed St. Lawrence's lead to five, and it was 42-35 at halftime. The Saints had two hot scorers through 20 minutes, freshman Pierre Coffy (Norwalk, CT) with 16 points, and Crawford with 14. Bard didn't have anyone in double figures just yet.

An old-fashioned three-point play pushed St. Lawrence's lead to 10 just five seconds into the second half, and then Bard went on a 13-2 tear, culminating with a three-pointer from Emmanuel Oyakhilome, and the Raptors led, 48-47, with barely five minutes gone.

It stayed close for the next five minutes, but midway through the half, St. Lawrence put together a 19-4 run over a four-minute span to push the lead back to 14 with 6:38 left.

Still, they persisted. Bard made another charge with a 14-5 run, and the Raptors trailed 83-78 with 3:04 remaining. But they could not get any closer.

Coffy led all scorers with 31 points, Crawford added 25 points and 17 rebounds, and Dom DeRegis (Jamesville, NY) scored 14 of his 21 in the second half.

Bard freshman Alijah Rue had 18 points, three rebounds, five assists and seven steals. Oyakhilome finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, David Runcie scored 12 points, and Justyn Rogers had 10 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
