Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Raptors shut out by #6 William Smith

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team lost to #6 William Smith College Saturday afternoon, 3-0, in a Liberty League conference matchup.

The Raptors fell to 5-4 overall on the season and 0-3 in league play. The Herons of William Smith meanwhile, improved to 8-1 on the year and 3-0 in the conference.

For much of the match, especially the opening 45 minutes, the Raptors packed their defense in to try to limit William Smith's offensive chances. It mostly worked in the first half as the Herons led just 1-0 entering halftime.

The Herons' lone first half goal came in the fourth minute, thanks to a strike from Julia Keogh (Toronto, Ontario).

Following a throw-in near the Bard penalty box line, Keogh received the pass and quickly turned to her left to face goal. At the left corner of the box, she unleashed a shot that sailed right over Tessa Greenhalgh's head and clanged off the the bottom of the crossbar, bouncing down into the goal.

In the second 45 minute frame, Bard again attempted to park the bus defensively, hoping to stop the Heron offense.

William Smith however, was able to breakthrough twice in the opening 11 minutes, thanks to lovely goals from Elizabeth Moore (Williamsville, NY) and Evie Manning (Lytham, England).

The Raptors weren't able to produce much offensively in the match, attempting just one shot over the 90 minutes. That shot came in the fifth minute off a Dylan McDonald free kick and was saved with relative ease by Veronica Romines (San Diego, CA).

The Herons meanwhile, finished with 21 shots, 10 of which were on goal. As a result, Greenhalgh finished with seven saves for Bard.

Up next for the Raptors is a break from conference play, as Bard hosts Ramapo College on October 4th at 5:30 p.m. You can follow that game right here.
