Raptors hold off Ramapo, 2-1

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team improved to 6-4 overall with 2-1 victory over Ramapo College in a non-league game on Wednesday evening.

The Raptors carried play and possession through most of the first half. In the 32nd minute, Avalon Qian punched a short pass to Katie Hopper, and Hopper's shot from the top of the box was stopped by Ramapo keeper Elizabeth Harvell (Hamilton, NJ). Harvell didn't catch it as she dove to her right, however, and Hayleigh Aulet was right there to push the rebound past her right on the doorstep. It was the first goal of her college career.

It remained 1-0 at half, but Bard made it 2-0 in the first minute of the second half. Carla Sanchez played a ball down the left wing for Qian, and she beat first one Ramapo defender, then another, before striking a cross on the ground right across the penalty area. Caroline Gluck was standing alone on the other side of the box and one-timed a shot past Harvell for her third goal of the year.

Ramapo (3-7) spent the rest of the half pressing forward in desperation, and it did produce a goal in the 77th minute. A long free kick was lofted into the box, and Bard keeper Tessa Greenhalgh got a piece of it, but didn't catch it. The rebound was one-timed by Ciara Brophy (Waldwick, NJ) into the upper left corner, and the lead was cut in half, 2-1.

Greenhalgh only had to make one save the rest of the way and finished with seven. Harvell made three saves for Ramapo.

Bard dives back into Liberty League play with a home match against conference newcomer Ithaca on Saturday. Follow it live starting at 2.
