ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost a pair of contests Saturday afternoon, falling to RIT and SUNY Poly in straight sets during a tri-match between the squads.
Set scores against Liberty League rival, RIT, were 25-12, 25-11 and 25-12 in the opening match. In the final contest of the tri-match, set scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-21 in Poly's favor
The Tigers of RIT (9-5) topped SUNY Poly (5-8) in straight sets in the middle match.
From the get-go, the Tigers established themselves in the win over Bard (3-12). RIT used massive scoring streaks in all three sets to build substantial leads over the Raptors, as the hosts just couldn't match RIT's hitting.
Bard only managed a hitting percentage of -.104, while RIT finished with .237 overall.
Alexis Akingbade led the Raptors with five kills in the game, while
Philippine Alba and
Emily Anastasi each recorded 13 digs.
Taylor Higgins (Peru, NY) paced the Tigers with 12 kills and three aces in the win.
In Bard's second matchup of the day, the Raptors again fell victim to long scoring rallies that the team struggled to end.
While the Raptors did end up losing the contest in straight sets to SUNY Poly, the team's hitting improved during the second contest.
The hosts finished with a .040 percentage, a major improvement over their game one performance. The Wildcats of SUNY Poly recorded a .147 total in the win.
Alba continued her solid afternoon for the Raptors, collecting 16 more digs in game two. The senior also added 12 kills, which topped all players in the contest.
Victoria Chou finished with 29 assists and Anastasi totaled 25 digs in the loss.
Karlie King (Liverpool, NY) led SUNY Poly with 11 kills and Sydney Johnson (Nine Mile Falls, WA) collected 22 assists.
With the two losses today, the Raptors have now lost eight straight. Bard will hope to end the losing streak on September 26th, when the team travels to SUNY Cobleskill for a non-conference match. That game is set to begin at 7 p.m.
