OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Saturday, the second day of the Oswego State Tournament.
Bard lost, 3-1, to both SUNY Canton and Utica to fall to 3-9 overall.
SUNY Canton (3-6) defeated Bard 25-20, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-7. The Roos hit the ball slightly more efficiently than the Raptors and got 16 kills from Shea Norton (Batavia, NY). Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) had 23 assists.
For Bard,
Philippine Alba had nine kills, four aces and seven digs;
Jewel Smith had 18 assists, and
Emily Anastasi had 18 digs.
After playing a poor fourth set in the loss to Canton, the Raptors came out strong and took the first set from Utica. But the Pioneers (3-9) held Bard off the rest of the way. Set scores for Utica were 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-17.
Nicole Herringshaw (Syracuse, NY) led the winners with nine kills and five blocks.
Bard got eight kills and eight digs from Alba, and seven kills apiece from
Victoria Chou and
Alexis Akingbade. Chou added 26 assists and four aces, while Anastasi led the Raptors again with 28 digs, which matched a school record. Akingbade was named to the All-Tournament Team, as she was after the season-opening Greyhound Premiere Tournament at Moravian.
