OSWEGO, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team began play at the Oswego State Tournament with a pair of straight-set losses Friday night.
The Raptors (3-7) fell to St. John Fisher College in the opening contest, 25-19, 25-13 and 25-16, before ultimately dropping a close game to Elmira College in the final match of the night.
Set scores against Elmira were 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.
Freshman
Lulu Strauss led the Raptors with five kills against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher (8-3). Captain
Kaylynn Tran picked up four kills, while
Emily Anastasi recorded 11 digs.
The Cardinals outhit Bard, .233 to -.012 in the match.
Anna Marcy (Rochester, NY) tallied 10 kills, three aces, four assists and 12 digs in the win for St. John Fisher.
In the Raptors' second match of the evening, the team recorded at least 20 points in all three sets against Elmira, but victory still eluded them in the end.
Alexis Akingbade finished with a team-high five kills and two blocks, while Anastasi once again led Bard in digs with 12.
Jewel Smith added 10 assists and five aces in the effort.
Elmira hit .236 during the win, while Bard could only manage a -.036 hitting percentage.
Natalie Schieder (Alden, NY) led the way for the Soaring Eagles of Elmira (5-2) with 19 kills and 11 digs.
The Raptors will continue play at the Oswego State Tournament tomorrow (9/16), when the team takes on SUNY Canton at 11 a.m. and Utica College at 1 p.m. You can follow those contests right here via Live Stats.
