BETHLEHEM, PA - The Bard College women's volleyball team began its season by dropping a pair of contests on the road Friday night, falling in straight sets in both.
The Raptors (0-2) were one of six schools participating in the 15th Annual Greyhound Premiere Invitational, which is hosted by Moravian University in Pennsylvania.
In Bard's opening match of the season, the team lost to York College of Pennsylvania, 25-16, 25-15 and 25-20.
In the nightcap, the Raptors fell to the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, 25-19, 25-10 and 25-20.
Alexis Akingbade led the way for the Raptors with six kills against York (PA), while
Philippine Alba tallied an impressive five serving aces, as well as six digs.
Victoria Chou finished with team-highs in assists (nine) and digs (seven) in the loss.
Brooke Krebs (Hanover, PA) recorded a game-high 11 kills for the Spartans of York (PA), while Gabby Emeigh (York Springs, PA) collected 15 assists in the win.
In the second match, Akingbade again led Bard in kills with eight and Chou led the team with 11 assists.
Lia Taus added seven digs and
Maracela Talamantes added five kills and five digs for the Raptors against the Panthers of Pittsburgh-Bradford.
Laura Hildebrand (State College, PA) finished with 34 assists in the win.
Bard will continue play at the Greyhound Premiere Invitational today (September 2nd), when it takes on Baldwin Wallace University at noon and Alvernia University at 2.
The Raptors' home opener will take place, September 5th, against Lehman University at 7 p.m.
