Mount St. Mary tops Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team fell to Mount Saint Mary College, 6-0, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup.

The loss dropped the Raptors to 8-21 overall, while the Knights of Mount St. Mary improved to 9-23.

A tough start to the game hurt Bard before its offense even got a chance to bat, as the Raptors allowed all six Mount St. Mary runs in the top of the first.

The first three Knights' batters reached base, before a forceout at home plate stopped a run from scoring on the fourth at-bat. However, Mount St. Mary wouldn't be denied, as it scored three runs on its next three at-bats, thanks to a single, a walk and a fielders choice groundout to second.

A single, a double steal and another single later in the inning, gave the Knights their final runs of the frame.

Bard's offense didn't help matters either, as the Raptors went 0-for-6 on the afternoon with runners in scoring position, as the team just couldn't find the right swing at the right time.

The hosts finished the day with six hits; Mount St. Mary College tallied 10 during the session.

Raptors' starter, Sam Grumet picked up the loss after he allowed six runs (all earned), four hits and four walks in just one inning of action.

Zach Hayes, Arya Bharatiya, Alex Bunnell and Rami Masani combined for no runs and just six hits in relief over the final eight innings

Sal Rizzo (Smithtown, NY) picked up the win for the Knights. He went five and two-thirds innings, gave up no runs on five hits and struck out five.

Jack Hawke finished with two hits, a single and a double for Bard, while Preston Gittelson recorded a single and a walk in the loss.

Five players finished with an RBI for Mount St. Mary College.

Up next for Bard is a four-game home and away series with rival, Vassar College. The first two games will be played at Vassar on April 29th. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. and you can follow those games right here.
