ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost to Hunter College Friday night, 3-0, falling by set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-12.
The first set began as a back and forth contest, as neither Bard (4-17) or the Hawks of Hunter (18-4) could take a clear advantage over the other.
The stalemate didn't last long though, as Hunter started to take control of the set once the score was tied at eight all.
The Hawks proceeded to score 13 of the next 16 points to take a commanding, 21-11 lead, before finishing off the set shorty after, 25-14.
The second set played out very similarly to the first, as again neither side could take the lead early. However, midway through the set, the Hawks began to display their pedigree, going on a 10-3 run to go up, 22-13. They would go on to win the set, 25-15.
The final set of the game once more featured a close battle early, before Hunter took control of the frame to seal the set and match. Bard fell in the set, 25-12.
The Raptors put forth a valiant effort on the evening by not only staying with the tenth ranked team in the nation, but doing so with only six players available in the contest, due to injuries and sickness.
The lack of hitting really hurt Bard's chance of winning though, as the Raptors finished the contest with a -.034 hitting percentage overall.
Hunter College on the other hand, found more success when it struck the ball, as the Hawks ended with a .312 percentage in the game.
Stefan Briggs led the Raptors with six kills on the night, while
Tristan Kozul added five kills and six digs and
Tyler Zowaski recorded four kills and seven digs.
Shane McDonald finished with a team-high, 11 assists for Bard.
Josh Kim added five digs and
Miroslav Skular tallied a kill and three digs for the hosts.
Hunter was led by Michael Jazgarski (Woodhaven, NY), who finished with a game-high seven kills. Nicolas Sanchez (New York, NY) led the Hawks in digs (12) and assists (24) during the win.
Up next for Bard, a home matchup with Yeshiva University on March 27th. That contest will begin at 8:00 p.m. and you can follow it right here via Live Stats and Live Video.
