ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's squash team lost a pair of matches Sunday morning, on day two of the Liberty League Championships.
The Raptors (10-7) fell to the University of Rochester and St. Lawrence University, 9-0, in each.
While Bard was swept in the contests, the Raptors were able to improve their play against top teams.
Rochester is currently ranked fourth in the nation, while St. Lawrence is ranked seventh. Bard, meanwhile, is ranked 44th nationally.
Against Rochester and the #4 player in the nation, Mario Yanez Tapia, Bard's top option,
Rhys Nordstrom, was able to make the final two sets quite close before he ultimately fell.
Tapia opened the match by beating Nordstrom, 11-2, but afterward, the Bard sophomore rallied with great effort.
Over the next two sets, Nordstrom pushed his opposition beyond the standard 11-point winning total. Nordstom lost the second set, 12-10, and the third set, 14-12.
This came as a great improvement from last year when Nordstrom lost to Tapia,11-7 and 11-5, before retiring in the third set.
Up next for the Raptors, a trip to Clinton, NY to take on Connecticut College and Hamilton College on February 11th.
