Raptors beat Vassar, fall to Hobart at Liberty League Championships

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's squash team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon, falling to Hobart College early in the day, before recovering to beat archrival, Vassar College, on day one of the Liberty League Championships.

The Raptors (10-5) struggled with Hobart, as they were swept 9-0 and didn't win a set during the entire match.

Following the loss, Bard regrouped and showed great resilience, as the team was able to outlast Vassar, 6-3. 

Bard's best win of the day came from #6, Satwik Srikrishnan, who rallied from an 0-2 hole in his matchup to win in five sets. The senior fell behind early, dropping the first two sets, 11-8 and 11-5. 

In the third set however, Srikrishnan began to build momentum as he outlasted Caden Gruber of Vassar, 12-10.

Over the final two sets, he completed his comeback rather easily, winning the fourth set,11-2 and the fifth, 11-4.

Bard also received wins from Ayateru Maeda, Julian Dime, Abe Etkin, Aman Kurien and Artun Ak. Dime, Etkin and Kurien swept their opponents during their matchups, while Maeda and Ak won in four sets. 

The Raptors's coach, Craig Thorpe-Clark applauded his team, saying they had a really great win, as they started hot and played with great effort in the second match. 

Up next for Bard, is day two of the Liberty League Championships, as the team will take on the University of Rochester and St. Lawrence University, beginning tomorrow at 9:00 a.m.
