ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team was swept in a pair of United Volleyball Conference matches on Saturday, losing to MIT and #11 Nazareth by 3-0 scores.
MIT defeated Bard 25-20, 25-15 and 25-15.
The Raptors started the day fast and they were sharp in the first set against MIT. It was a tight set throughout, until the end, when the Engineers (11-3, 2-0 UVC) put together a scoring burst to turn an 18-17 lead into a 25-20 win. Bard hit .241 in the first set, and MIT hit .333.
Bard was unable to maintain the offensive efficiency for the whole day, though. MIT cruised in the final two sets, winning them both 25-15. Cameron Burnett (Solana Beach, CA) led the winners with nine kills, Yize Dong (Moraga, CA) had 16 assists, and Suyash Fulay (Wexford, PA) had seven digs.
Bard got six kills (.308) and five digs from
Tyler Zowaski;
Mahir Sheikh added 16 assists and five digs.
Nazareth (9-6, 1-1 UVC) handled Bard 25-13, 25-11 and 25-17. The Golden Flyers hit .456 and got 11 kills (.769) from senior Kate Wittorff (Milford, MA). Jake Kemp (Phelps, NY) had 20 assists and six digs.
Bard (1-11, 0-3 UVC) got six kills from
Alex Adams, 12 assists from Sheikh, and five digs from
Josh Kim.
In the first match of the day, MIT surprised #11 Nazareth in five sets.
