ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team breezed past Vaughn College Wednesday night, 95-57, to secure its first victory of the 2017-18 season.
Bard controlled the game from start to finish. Out of a possible 40 minutes played, the Raptors led for 38:43 of it. The remaining 1:17 ... the game was tied, as the hosts never trailed in the contest.
While the Raptors never trailed on the night, the Warriors did keep it close early, before a 30-15 Raptors' run busted the game wide-open late in the first half. The run was punctuated in spectacular fashion, as
Alijah Rue lobbed a pass from half-court to
Jelani Bell-Isaac for an alley-oop, which brought the crowd to its feet.
The transition game was key in Bard's victory, as the team finished with 32 fast break points, compared to 0 for the Warriors of Vaughn College.
The Raptors had three players finish in double-digits, as the team was led by
David Runcie and his career-high 31 points.
Justyn Rogers and
John Miller each added 13 points in the victory.
Rue nearly finished with a double-double, as the freshman tallied nine points and nine assists.
Josh Etukudo scored six points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Raptors.
Bryan Green (Bronx, NY) powered the Warriors in the loss, finishing with a team-high 28 points and game-high 13 rebounds.
Up next for Bard is the beginning of Liberty League play, as the Raptors play host to RIT on Friday night. That contest is set to tip-off at 8 p.m. and you can follow it right here.
