ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season with a 73-54 loss to 16th-ranked Rochester in the Chuck Resler Tournament on Friday night.
The Raptors will play The College of New Jersey in the consolation game on Saturday at 3.
Rochester took a 34-16 lead into halftime, but in the second half, Bard shook off the nerves and got some things going. Senior Jelani Bell-Isaac scored all of his team-high 11 points in the second half, as Rochester outscored Bard, 39-38, in the final 20 minutes.
The Yellowjackets got 16 points apiece from Michael Mangan (Winnetka, IL) and Jacob Wittig (Manlius, NY).
Ten players scored for Bard, led by Bell-Isaac, who had six rebounds and three steals to go with his 11 points. Freshman point guard Alijah Rue scored seven of his nine points in the second half, and Emmanuel Oyakhilome chipped in with eight points, three rebounds and a pair of blocked shots.
