Bard thumps Albany Pharmacy, ECAC bid within grasp

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer team dominated Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, 4-0, Wednesday evening in a non-league contest, as the team extended its postseason dreams.

With the win, the Raptors improved to 8-8 overall and moved into position to qualify for the ECAC Tournament with a win or draw in their season finale at Skidmore College on October 28th.

If Bard were to secure the win or draw this weekend, the team would enter a pool of candidates and possibly be selected to be one of eight participants in the tournament.

The Raptors participated in the ECAC Tournament just two years ago, losing in the semifinals to Rutgers-Newark.

Regardless of what happens this weekend, Wednesday night's win was all Bard from the opening whistle to the final horn.

The Raptors struck gold just 52 seconds into the game, thanks to Giuliana Scanni's third goal of the season, which came off an assist from Avalon Qian.

In the forth minute, Bard doubled its lead when Carla Sanchez scored her first goal of the year. Caroline Gluck collected the assist on the strike, her first of three in the game.

Qian scored twice in the win, increasing her total to 10 goals on the year. It's the first time a female player has scored double-digit goals in a season since 2010, when Maddy Huggins recorded 11 goals for the Raptors.

While the Bard offense was impressive on the evening, the Raptors' defense was equally as dominant. The visitors held the Panthers to just five shots in the game, none of which came on goal.

As a result, Tessa Greenhalgh had an easy night in goal for Bard, while Sally Slowinski (Colrain, MA) finished with nine saves on the night for the hosts.

Up next for Bard is that crucial matchup with Skidmore College on October 28th. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and you can follow it right here.
