SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Bard College women's soccer lost at Skidmore College Saturday afternoon, 2-0, to wrap up its 2017 season.
The Raptors fell behind in the 12th minute, when Emily Mendes (Brooklyn, NY) received a cross from Courtney Shaw (Rye Brook, NY) and scored with a low shot from the top of the box.
Bard nearly tied the contest up late in the first half, following a shot from
Mikaela Martiros, which was stopped by Skidmore's keeper, Alyssa Rollins (Rochester, NY). With Rollins out of position following the save,
Julia Gibson collected the rebound and unleashed a shot from the top of the box.Â
However, a Thoroughbred defender was able to corral it on the goal line and push it out of harm's way to preserve the host's lead.
The score remained 1-0 until late into the second half, when Shaw again linked up with Mendes, this time off a corner in the 85th minute. Mendes headed home her second of the game and provided the insurance goal Skidmore needed to secure the win.
Tessa Greenhalgh finished the afternoon with eight saves for the Raptors, while Rollins tallied four saves in the win.Â
It was the final game in the careers of
Avalon Qian,
Carla Sanchez and
Emily Weisman.Â
The Raptors finished the season 8-9 overall and 1-8 in the Liberty League.Â
