ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.- The Bard College women's soccer team lost to St. Lawrence University, 3-0, in a Liberty League game on Friday afternoon.
Bard (5-4 overall, 0-2 Liberty League) was able to withstand St. Lawrence's pressure early in the match, using a bend but don't break mentality. In the 30th minute, however, St. Lawrence freshman phenom Emily Wade (Rochester, NY) blasted a shot from 10 yards that Bard goalie
Kelsey O'Brien got a hand on but couldn't keep out of the upper right corner.
In the second half, St. Lawrence continued it's attack, building up to a gorgeous breakaway goal in the 72nd minute from Hannah Merriam (Elmore, VT). Wade struck a through ball from midfield, and Merriam outraced a Bard defender and calmly beat O'Brien to the far post.Â
Just ten minutes later, Julia Hill (Stowe, MA) added to the scoring, with a floating shot from about 25 yards that caught a gust of wind and got over the hands of O'Brien for a 3-0 lead.
Bard nearly scored in the 88th minute, when
Dylan McDonald struck a ball from outside that box that beat the keeper, however, the shot hit the inside of the far post and was cleared off the line.Â
O'Brien finished with 14 saves. Jackie Sovie (Lisbon, NY) had two for the Saints (6-1-1, 1-1-0).
