CANTON, N.Y. - For the second year in a row, the Bard College men's soccer team went to double overtime with nationally-ranked St. Lawrence. And for the second year in a row, St. Lawrence pulled out a victory.
Last year, the 16th-ranked Saints scored in the 105th minute to win at Bard, 2-1. On Friday, the 11th-ranked Saints scored in the 102nd minute to win in Canton, 1-0.
Sure, St. Lawrence dominated possession and outshot Bard, 28-9. You could say they deserved it.
But the Raptors laid it all on the line trying to grab a point up there and nearly pulled it off.
St. Lawrence (4-2-3 overall, 1-1 Liberty League) outshot Bard 14-2 in the first half and 12-3 in the second half.
Taylor Bond stood tall, making nine saves, and the crossbar helped him in the 70th minute.
In the first overtime, Bard outshot St. Lawrence, 4-1. But just over a minute into the second overtime, a corner - the Saints' 15th of the game - from Christian Barral-Arteta (Southport, CT) was headed in by 6-foot-4 sophomore defender Ryan Crouse (Jordanville, NY), and St. Lawrence survived.
Bond finished with nine saves; Mike Smith (Syracuse, NY) made four saves for St. Lawrence.
Bard (4-2-3, 0-2-0 LL) next plays at Clarkson on Saturday afternoon at 2. Follow the game right here via Live Stats or Live Video.
