ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y - The Bard College women's soccer team improved to 2-0 on the season, as they outlasted Mount Saint Vincent (0-1) on Saturday afternoon.
The Raptors went up early in the second half, thanks to goals from
Dylan McDonald and
Emily Tylki. McDonald struck home a gorgeous free kick from 20 yards in the top left corner in the 51st minute to give Bard the lead. Five minutes later, Tylki capitalized on a mad scramble in front, as a cross bounded across the goalmouth, she punched in a sliding shot just before keeper Elizabeth Martin (Lawrenceville, NJ) got to the far post, and it was 2-0.
Junior
Avalon Qian played a major role in both goals. She set up McDonald's free kick after creating a dangerous opportunity and she was fouled; on the Tylki goal, she's the one who pushed the cross into all that madness in front of the Dolphins' net.
Mount Saint Vincent didn't go down without a fight, though. During the final thirty minutes of the game, the Dolphins stepped up their attack and were able to cut the lead in half, when Kelly Gibison (Waterford Works, NJ) volleyed a cross from Caroline Criscuola (North Merrick, NY) from the top of the box into the bottom right corner.
Bard outshot Mount Saint Vincent, 15-10, and dominated the corner count, 6-2.
Martin and Bard keeper
Chloe Ramos each made five saves.
Bard is right back on the field on Sunday, as it hosts Medgar Evers at 2.
