SCRANTON, PA - The Bard College women's volleyball team opened the season with a pair of losses at the Scranton Invitational on Friday night.
Bard lost to FDU- Florham, 3-0, and Wentworth Insitute of Technology, 3-1.
FDU- Florham (2-0) swept Bard 25-14, 25-19,and 25-15. The Red Devils dominated from the start of the match, hitting .333 and they produced 40 kills to Bard's 30. Lauren Harris (Camas, WA) lead the winners with 11 kills and hit .500. Courtney Conte (Nutley, NJ) had 18 assists.
For Bard (0-2),
Sofia Koukia had ten kills, freshman
Maracela Talamantes had 11 assists, and
Victoria Chou added five kills, six assists and eight digs.
Wentworth defeated Bard 25-19, 25-16, 22-25, 25-11. After Bard rallied to take the third set, the Leopards hit .469 in the fourth set to put the match away.
For the winners, Leah Rogoz (Woodridge, IL) had 13 kills and eight digs, while Samantha Lassiter (Rodgers, AR) finished with 12 kills and hit .522.
For the Raptors,
Philippine Alba had ten kills and 13 digs. Chou had seven assists and 13 digs, while freshman
Emily Anastasi contributed seven assists and 12 digs.
The Raptors continue play at the Scranton Invitational with two games Saturday. They will place Penn State Behrend at 11:30 a.m., and Wheaton at 1:30 p.m.
