ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team was swept twice on Saturday at a Liberty League Crossover hosted by Rochester Institute of Technology.
RIT swept Bard 25-19, 25-12 and 26-24. Later, St. Lawrence defeated Bard 25-22, 25-8 and 25-20.
In the first match, RIT hit .329 and held off Bard for the sweep. In the first set, the Raptors trailed 5-1 early but eventually tied it, 12-12. The Tigers scored the next three points and Bard didn't get closer than two the rest of the way.
In the second set Bard got down 10-5 and just never made it back. And in the third set, the Raptors had leads of 12-8, 17-14 and 24-22, but RIT rallied to pull it out.
For the winners, Sara Taylor (Tonawanda, NY) had 11 kills and hit .450, and Sarah Szybist (Colorado Springs, CO) had 10 kills and hit .600. For Bard, Sophia Koukia,
Alexis Akingbade and
Kaylynn Tran had five kills apiece;
Victoria Chou added eight assists and seven digs.
Against St. Lawrence, the first and third sets were close, but Bard just couldn't get over the hump. Grace Kelly (West Chazy, NY) had 14 kills and hit .480.
Philippine Alba led Bard with eight kills; Chou had 18 assists, and
Emily Anastasi led the Raptors with 10 digs.
Bard is 2-10, 0-4 in the Liberty League; St. Lawrence is 5-8, 1-3; and RIT is 9-4, 3-1.
