Raptors split home matches

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y.- The Bard College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon, as they played host to a tri-match day, with Sarah Lawerence and Maritime visiting. 

The Raptors started off the day with a 3-1 win over Sarah Lawerence, dropping the first set, 21-25, before rallying back to win the next three, 25-19, 25-17 and 25-23. 

Philippine Alba, Victoria Chou and Sofia Koukia all has stellar performances for Bard in the first match. Alba tallied 20 digs, Chou had 38 assists and Koukia finished with 20 kills. 

For Sarah Lawrence, freshman Francesca Kohani (Carlsbad, CA) had 12 kills, sophomore CJ Kelley (Las Vegas, NV) has 24 assists and freshman Lauren Kilroy (King of Prussia, PA) finished with 24 digs.

In the second match of the day, Maritime defeated Sarah Lawrence (2-2), 3-1, by the scores of 17-25, 25-14, 25-20 and 25-12.

In the final game of the day, Bard (2-5) put up a solid effort against Maritime (4-3), but in the end fell 3-1. The Raptors won the first set 25-17, but then dropped the next three, 15-25, 21-25 and 25-27. 

After falling behind early in the fourth set, 8-1, Bard raillied to tie the match 24-all, but were done in by 35 errors.

Alexis Akingbade and Koukia each had nine kills against Maritime, while Chou had 18 assists and Alba has 19 digs. 

As for Maritime, Shannon Brady (Bayport, NY) had 14 kills and Erika Bailey (Newark Valley, NY) lead the way with 35 assists. 

Bard will have a few days off before, before starting a six-game road trip, which begins September 14th, as the Raptors face off with Mount Saint Mary College. Bard's next home game will be September 23, when they host Vassar College to kick off Liberty League play.
