ANNDANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's volleyball team defeated Sage College, 3-1, in a non-conference match on Wednesday night.
Set scores for Bard were 25-20, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-21. The home team got 47 kills in the match, but Sage's 29 attack errors and 10 service errors helped the Raptors improve to 8-21.
Bard hit an impressive .321 and had 12 kills in the first set. The second set was tight throughout, as neither team led by more than two and the score was tied 11 times, the last time at 20-20. Bard secured the set thanks to back-to-back kills from
Alex Adams.
The Gators (13-18) won the third set, and the fourth set was tied at 15-15 before Bard took charge with three straight points. Consecutive errors closed it out for Bard as Sage never got closer.
Jesse Small led the attack for the Raptors with 13 kills along with eight digs.
Mahir Sheikh had a career-high 38 assists to go with two blocks, while
Alex Adams finished with 11 kills.
Tyler Zowaski and
Kai Bernier-Chen each picked up seven digs, and
Troy Robertson had seven kills and four blocks.
For Sage (13-18), Ryan Guyton (Lockport, NY) finished with a match-high 22 kills. Melvin Tejada (Springfield, MA) and Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, MA) each had 11 digs, while Fitzpatrick also had 31 assists.
