ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's volleyball team swept Sarah Lawrence College 25-7, 25-14, and 25-14, in a non-league match on Thursday night.
The Raptors had a .295 hitting percentage and 18 aces in the match, along with 31 kills. Bard held its opponent to four kills on the day, including zero in the first set.
Bard took the first set with ease, with a .556 hitting percentage and 12 kills.
Alex Adams had five kills in that set as the Raptors won 25-7.
In the second set, it was tied on six separate occasions, the last being at 10, before the Raptors took control of the set, winning 25-14. Bard was helped by 19 attack errors by the visitors in that set alone.
In the third set, Adams produced five aces to build a 7-1 lead and the Gryphons never recovered, as Bard had its largest lead of 17-4. Sarah Lawrence battled back, but the Raptors took the set 25-14.
Adams led Bard with seven kills and seven aces. It was the fourth time this year that he reached seven aces in a match.
Troy Robertson and
Tyler Zowaski each contributed five kills.
Mahir Sheikh had 22 assists, one shy of his season-high of 23.
Kai Bernier-Chen had six assists and three digs. Zowaski,
Gabe Adams-Keane, and Adams each had three digs, while
Daniel Gagne led with four.
For the Gryphons (0-18), Callan Moor (Los Angeles, CA) had two kills. Richard Warke (Vancouver, BC) had five digs and three assists.
The Raptors (7-19) wrap up United Volleyball Conference play this Saturday against two nationally-ranked opponents. They will face No. 7 Nazareth at 1:30 p.m. and No. 15 New York University in New York City, N.Y. You can follow both matches live right here.
