OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The Bard College baseball team lost to Stevenson University, 9-6, in the first meeting between the schools on Wednesday afternoon.
For the second straight game on this Spring Break trip, the Raptors scored three in the top of the first.
David Schlosser led off the game with a double and later scored on an error; an RBI double by
Jeff Goldrosen and a fielder's choice grounder made it 3-0.
The Mustangs took the lead for good with five in the bottom of the third on five hits, an error and a balk. A solo homer by Billy Small (Ellicott City, MD) in the third and a sacrifice fly in the fourth gave Stevenson a 7-3 lead going into the top of the fifth.
Schlosser singled and later scored on a double by
Adam Carafotes in that frame, and an RBI single by
Rory Maglich cut the hosts' lead to 7-5 going into the bottom of the sixth.
A two-run double by Craig Joseph (Marlton, NJ) made is 9-5 for Stevenson through six innings.
Bard (5-6) pushed a run across in the top of the eighth to make it 9-6.
Matt Lasky and
Preston Gittelson singled, and Maglich moved them over with a sacrifice bunt. Lasky scored on a strikeout/wild pitch that allow
Julian Gonzalez to reach, and
David Schlosser walked to load the the bases. But a double-play ended the inning, and Bard went down in order in the ninth.
Evan Richardson (0-2) took the loss, going three innings, allowing six runs on seven hits. He fanned three batters. Matt Myers (Frederick, MD) got the win, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits.
Ian Eberly (Harrisonburg, VA) and Joseph each had three hits and three RBI for the Mustangs.

Schlosser, Carafotes and Lasky had two hits apiece for Bard, and Carofotes drove in a pair of runs.

The Raptors have three games left on this Spring Break trip, all against Washington College of Maryland. They'll play one game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday. Follow all of the action live right here.
