PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Bard College men's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on the first day of the Johnson & Wales Invitational on Friday.
The Raptors were swept by Emmanuel College before losing to Johnson & Wales, 3-1.
Against Emmanuel (8-8), Bard went down 25-20, 25-21 and 25-15. Barret Wingard (York, PA) led the Saints with 13 kills and had nine digs. Erik English (Simi Valley, CA) added nine kills and 10 digs, while Drew Jordan (Braintree, MA) had eight kills and 10 digs.
For the Raptors,
Alex Adams paced his team with 10 kills and picked up four digs.
Jesse Small contributed seven kills and eight digs.
Kai Bernier-Chen had 13 assists and six digs, while
Mahir Sheikh had 10 assists and four digs.
Tyler Zowaski led his team with 13 digs.
Against JWU, the set scores for the hosts were 25-16, 25-21, 14-25, 25-18.
After losing the first two sets, the Raptors led early in the third set, 12-6, and never looked back. The visitors hit a .381 clip and had 10 kills in the set.
For the winners, Brendan Baker (Providence, RI) had 12 kills and two blocks. Alex Seda (San Juan, Puerto Rico) added nine kills and 10 digs, while Cameron Ponce (San Jose, CA) had 21 assists, eight digs, and seven kills.
For the Raptors, Adams and Small each had seven kills and seven digs. Adams also had two aces.
Troy Robertson and
Shane McDonald added five kills and two blocks each. Bernier-Chen had 10 assists and Sheikh had nine. Zowaski had 15 digs and added two assists.
