Raptors earn 3-1 victory at Wilson

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Bard College men's volleyball team spoiled the first home match for the first-year Wilson College volleyball team, downing the Phoenix, 3-1, in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon.

The Raptors improved to 3-13 on the year, while the Phoenix fell to 0-9.

Set scores for the winners were 27-25, 22-25, 25-15, and 25-22. The Raptors hit a season-best .303.

Bard took the first set 27-25 in a close battle. The visitors led 12-10 in the second set, but Wilson took the set 25-22 to even the match at one set a piece.

The Raptors had a 15-10 lead in the third set, before eventually taking it 25-15 for a 2-1 lead in the match. They hit .344 with 13 kills in the third set.

The Raptors held a 12-8 edge in the fourth set, before the home team took a 15-14 lead. Bard retook the lead at 20-16. The home team cut the deficit to 23-21, but the Raptors held on for a 25-22 victory.

Alex Adams had 13 kills, four aces, and 15 digs for the Raptors, while Jesse Small added 10 kills. Adams also hit a .480 in the match. Tyler Zowaski had 17 digs and four assists, while Kai Bernier-Chen had 21 assists, 12 digs, and two blocks. Mahir Sheikh contributed 18 helpers, while Shane McDonald had nine kills.

Aaron Hoke (Chambersburg, PA) had a match-high 19 kills for Wilson along with a team-high two aces. He also had 11 digs. His brother, Evan Hoke (Chambersburg, PA) had 12 digs and seven kills. Jeremy Waldman (New Oxford, PA) had 23 assists.

The Raptors return to Annandale for a United Volleyball Conference tri-match against nationally-ranked Elmira (No. 11) and Stevens Institute of Technology (No. 6) on Saturday. The first match is set to begin at 11 a.m. You can follow all of the action live right here.
