SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches on Saturday, the final day of the Tom Hay Invitational at Springfield College.
The Raptors lost to Springfield, 3-0, and Westfield State, 3-2.
Springfield beat Bard 25-9, 25-11 and 25-19. The Pride (15-3) hit .394 in the match and got eight kills (.636) and five digs from Jennifer Donnelly (Exeter, RI). Bard got seven kills and five digs from
Philippine Alba, six kills from
Sofia Koukia, and 10 assists and six digs from
Victoria Chou.
The Raptors (5-19) battled back from a 2-0 deficit to force a fifth and deciding game against Westfield State (10-11). After losing the first two sets, 25-15 and 25-20, Bard won the third set, 25-16, and the fourth set, 26-24. But the Owls responded with a 15-13 win in a back-and-forth fifth set to win the match.
Westfield State got 14 kills from Paige Donahue (Reading, MA) and 32 assists from Brigid Murray (Norfolk, MA).
Alba led Bard with 15 kills, three aces and 10 digs. Koukia had six kills, while
Alexis Akingbade had six kills and four blocks. Chou had 27 assists and 16 digs.
Emily Anastasi added 14 digs, and
Lia Taus had 11 digs. Alba was named to the All-Tournament team.Â
