ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team defeated Lehman College, 3-1, in a non-league match on Wednesday night.
It was an adventure. Bard was down early in the three of the four sets and had to battle back the hard way. Set scores were 25-13, 25-27, 25-20 and 25-19.
The Raptors (7-25) got up early in the first set and cruised. But in the second set they got down 8-4 and 18-13, rallied, then lost it late, 27-25.
Bard got down 5-0 in the third set, eventually tied it 18-18, then prevailed. And in the fourth set, the Raptors were down 12-6 before a big rally to knot it at 15-15, and then they put the match away.
Salveira Gonzalez (Yonkers, NY) led the Lightning with 11 kills and 11 digs. Lehman is 6-18.
Bard got 16 kills (.282) and six aces from
Sofia Koukia, and 14 kills and 20 digs from
Philippine Alba.
Victoria Chou had 25 assists and
Jewel Smith had 16.
Alexis Akingbade added nine kills.
Senior
Daniella Azulai, playing in her final home match, had 25 digs and five aces. The Raptors are 7-25.
There are three games left in the 2016 season, all at the Dig Pink Invitational, being hosted by SUNY Oneonta on Friday and Saturday. Bard will play SUNY Canton on Friday, then Elmira and SUNY-Delhi on Saturday.
