Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Bard takes tough double OT loss vs. Hobart

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's soccer team lost in heartbreaking fashion on Friday, falling in double overtime to Hobart College, 1-0.

After both teams played 100 straight scoreless minutes, Hobart (6-4-3, 3-1-1 Liberty League) was finally able to break through just 53 seconds into the second overtime, as freshmen Cooper O'Connell (Williston, VT) placed a beautiful header off a cross from Clint Dunn (Mission Hills, KS) just inside the far post.

Immediately, the Hobart bench erupted in cheers as the team stormed the field, leaving Bard (5-5-3, 0-4 Liberty League) with nothing but disappointment and a feeling of deja vu. Just two weeks ago, the Raptors suffered the same fate when they fell in double overtime to another probable Liberty League playoff team, St. Lawrence.

The game was evenly played, and in the first half, Bard held Hobart without a shot on goal. In fact, Bard's best opportunity to score came in the 15th minute, when John Flynn blistered a shot from 18 yards toward the far post. Hobart keeper Alec Kaminer (Paramus, NJ) got two hands on it with a full extension dive, but it was such a rocket it kept rolling toward the goal line. Kaminer got up and dove on it just before it crossed the goal line, and just before Nick Shenberger arrived.

Hobart ended up outshooting Bard, 10-8, but shots on goal were 3-2 for Bard. Kaminer made three saves and Taylor Bond made one for the Raptors.

Bard will be back in action Saturday, as it hosts RIT in a Liberty League game at 2. Follow it live right here.
