WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The Bard College women's volleyball team snapped a 12-match losing streak with a pair of victories in a tri-match at the University of St. Joseph on Saturday.
The Raptors defeated two teams from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference, topping Mount Ida, 3-1, then holding off host USJ, 3-2, in a thriller.
Against Mount Ida, Bard prevailed 25-19, 15-25, 26-24 and 25-12. The Raptors put the match away by hitting .304 in the fourth set.
Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, MA) led the Mustangs with 12 kills and 16 digs.
Sofia Koukia had 14 kills to lead the Raptors, and
Philippine Alba had 13 kills.
Victoria Chou had 17 assists and seven digs;
Maracela Talamantes had 13 assists and six digs; and
Emily Anastasi led Bard with 17 digs. She also had three assists and three aces.
Bard got up two sets to none on University of St. Joseph, then hung on for a 25-21, 25-18, 21-25, 20-25, 15-8 victory.
USJ got 11 kills and eight digs from Jasmine Buckley (Beacon, NY).
Koukia had 16 kills, seven digs and two blocks.
Alexis Akingbade had a season-high 12 kills; Alba had eight kills and 18 digs; Chou had 42 assists and 14 digs; and
Allison Amaya and
Julia Berry added 13 digs apiece.
Mount Ida is 6-10; USJ is 7-7; Bard is 4-16.
