PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team swept Purchase College, 25-21, 25-9, and 25-20 in a non-league game on Thursday night.
The Raptors were led by
Sofia Koukia, who had 23 kills along with three aces.
Victoria Chou had 26 assists and eight aces, while
Kaylynn Tran had 17 assists.
Philippine Alba had 11 digs.
Bard trailed early in the first set, but was able to tie everything at 8-8. From there, the visitors built a 15-10 lead before the Panthers closed the gap to 21-19. However, the Raptors were able to close out the set 25-21. Koukia had 13 of her 23 kills in the opening set.
The Raptors then dominated the second set, as Chou had eight points coming from the serve. In the third set, the hosts led 5-0 and then 9-4 before Bard came back to tie the set at 11. From there, neither team led by more than two points before Bard went ahead 22-17. The Panthers attempted a comeback to make it 22-20, but Koukia scored the final three points, including two aces to finish off the hosts.
Bard had a .318 hitting percentage in the contest, including .533 in the second set. The guests also held Purchase to a 0.033 hitting percentage. Freshman Logan Morrissey (Woodbridge, CT) led the Panthers (0-6) with six kills, while junior Alex Lally (Sunnyvale, TX) had 11 assists. Â
Bard (5-8) returns to action on Saturday with two non-league matches at home. The first is against Albertus Magnus at noon, with the second one scheduled for 4 p.m. against Medgar Evers.
