ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. –
The Bard College women's soccer team dropped a double-overtime thriller to SUNY Potsdam, 4-3,
on Saturday afternoon.Bard got up 2-0 early, trailed 3-2 at half, tied the game in the 75th minute, then lost in double overtime when SUNY Potsdam Olivia Seamans (Bolton Landing, NY) lofted a high arcing shot over the head of backup keeper
Shane Crowley for a golden goal in the 106th minute.
Bard fell to 2-1-1; the Bears are 4-1.
Bard struck first when
Isabel Keddy-Hector boomed a 25-yard free kick which found the head of
Abbey Labrecque at the far post, making it 1-0 in the 15th minute. Labrecque made it 2-0 in the 31st minute when she pounced on a failed clear and chipped it into the right side of the net.
The Bears answered quickly with a goal coming just over two minutes later on a breakaway. Brooke Falsion (Brockport, NY) sped down the left side of the field, fed Seamans in the middle, and she finished it with a quick move to cut the lead in half.
Two minutes later, Seamans tied the game at 2-2 with a lofted shot from 35 yards out. About four minutes after that, SUNY Potsdam took the lead when Falsion scored again, and it was 3-2 at the break.
In the second half, the Raptors had multiple chances that barely missed the net, including a shot by
Avalon Qian that was blocked by the last defender on the goal line in the 67
th minute. She was able to get a second chance in the 75
th minute to tie the game, and she did. After
Gemma Godfrey beat three defenders on the wing, she fed a pass through a crowd of players to find Qian crashing to the far post and tap the ball passed the keeper.
Neither team had a good scoring chance for the remainder of regulation. Bard had two shots in the first overtime period that just missed. Keddy-Hector had the Raptors only shot on goal in the second overtime period.
Bard finished the game with a 20-10 advantage in shots, including a 10-7 edge in shots on goal.
