Raptors smack eight doubles, produce record number of runs in victory over John Jay (with photo gallery)

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It certainly wasn't a baseball clinic, but it was a 'W', and Bard will take it.

The Raptors banged out 18 hits, including eight doubles, and scored a program-record 19 runs in a 19-12 victory over John Jay in a non-league game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Raptors have won three in a row and five of their last nine. The eight doubles is a record, too.

Bard (8-24) had to rally from deficits of 4-0 and 6-4, and it was made more difficult by five errors, but the offense came through. After John Jay (2-26) scored four in the top of the first, Bard tied it up in the bottom of the inning. And after the Bloodhounds put two more up in the top of the second, the Raptors responded with four in the bottom and never trailed again.

Things did get a little sweaty in the top of the sixth, when John Jay scored three times (two unearned) to cut Bard's lead to 10-9, but the Raptors put three more up in the bottom of the sixth, and it never got closer.

There were several offensive stars for Bard. Alec Montecalvo went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and four runs scored. Adam Carafotes went 3-for-5 with a double, four RBI and four runs scored. The suddenly-hot Nick Kifyak went 4-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and three runs scored. And the same goes for Eswar Vinnakota, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI.

Kifyak is 7-for-11 in Bard's last three games to drive his batting average up 65 points, and Vinnakota is 5-for-7 in Bard's last two games.

Sam Grumet got the win on the mound, yielding one earned run over five innings in relief.

The 19 runs was the most Bard had scored since a 17-10 win over Elmira earlier this spring.

Bard has four games remaining in the 2015 season. They'll host Skidmore for a Liberty League doubleheader Saturday, then travel to Saratoga Sunday to play two more with the Thoroughbreds. Follow all four games live right here.
